The second Club Open Competition of the 2010 Season was the FENTON QUAICH run by the Perth Petanque Club at the North Inch in Perth on 18th April.
On not the most pleasant of spring days – we experienced dull, damp, wet, fair, sun, rain and sleet – well perhaps that is a typical spring day!
Twenty players – 13 from Perth, 2 from the Bees 3 from Inverleith and 2 from Fochabers – were welcomed with bacon rolls and coffee courtesy of Eileen M and Jean H.
Ten teams played a five round snake.
No need to mention the winners at this stage, it was third place that was most keenly fought with four teams registering three wins and after several recounts Ben B and Ian S got the better of Eileen M and Margaret M, Mabel D and Finlay R and Jean and Henry H on points difference.
Two teams were ‘fannied’, you know who you are, and were excused the embarrassment of kissing the Fanny due to the forgetfulness, a senior moment, of the organiser! Just be thankful it wasn’t Uncle Ed S who was running the competition.
So the result was as follows –
1st – Robbie Stronach and John Wilson – 5 wins + 39
2nd – Colin Stewart and Derek Adam – 4 wins + 24
3rd – Ben Burnhill and Ian Smith – 3 wins + 14
The other teams were –
Eileen M and Margaret M, Mabel D and Finlay R, Jean and Henry H, Alice S and Douglas H, Stuart M and Jim D, John W and Christine C and Sheila A and Elsie W.
Thanks to the above for coming to support Perth Petanque and making it a good day of petanque regardless of the weather.
