Scottish petanque was saddened to hear of the passing of Jim Main on 24.12.14. Our thoughts and condolences are with Norma and the family.
The “Mainiacs” were among the vanguard as petanque spread across Scotland in the 1980’s and early 90’s. Jim and Norma, living and working in Aberdeen, helped get petanque booming in Aberdeen and the North-East area. With clubs in Newburgh, Ardo House, Stonehaven and Fochabers it was not unusual to have well in excess of 30 teams at open competitions.
The Mains regularly made the later stages of triples events and Jim and Norma were an even more formidable doubles pairing. However it was at Singles that Jim made his mark, as the second person to win the National Singles title.
Jim was a great sport and gentleman on and off the piste. We will miss him.
