On a slightly overcast but pleasantly warm and dry day 18 players (well actually 19 as Istvan shared a place with Monika) took part in this Perth Petanque event – a five round individual Melee with players mixed up in each round and playing in either a pair or a triple depending on the draw.
It was especially good to see some of the newer Perth members amongst the usual mix of players, all of whom acquitted themselves well with some good wins which will hopefully encourage them to participate in future events.
The end result was very close with final results depending on the outcome of the last game and with four players on four wins fighting it out for 2nd to 4th it was Bob Boyle (Stirling) who just missed out on a prize on points difference. Alison Swiffin and Istvan/Monika tied on 4 wins and +19 points for 2nd/3rd place and by mutual agreement shared those prizes, giving the choice of prize to Istvan’s daughter who was asked if she would prefer wine or chocolate – no prizes for guessing which one she chose!
However that was a tie for Second place and the outright Winner was one of Perth’s well established players with a clean sweep of 5 wins out of 5 – Eileen Moonie, who was on top form during the event pulling out some of the classic shots that Eileen is renowned for.
Proceeds from refreshments and the fun lunchtime competitions (Congratulations to Henry Hutcheson who won both the shooting and pointing events) totalled £75. This will be donated to Cancer Research UK via their charity shop in Frank’s home town of Blairgowrie.
Many thanks to all those who assisted and participated to make this a very successful event.
