The 2019 Scottish Cup for Clubs was contested on August 24 and 25 at Perth Petanque Club. The first competition of its kind to be held in Scotland pitted club teams from Fochabers, Glasgow, Inverleith, Perth (A and B squads), Penicuk and Troon against each other over two fantastic days of competition.
The winning club would be 2019 Scottish Club Champions and offered the opportunity to represent the Scottish Petanque Association in the 2020 EuroCup.
The 7 clubs were divided into two leagues for Saturday’s qualifying rounds with the top 2 from each league progressing to Sunday’s main competition and the rest contesting the plate. The results of the Saturday qualifying rounds were as follows:
Sunday’s matches would follow the format of EuroCup matches, with 6 Singles, 3 Doubles and 2 Triples games per match.
In Sunday’s semi finals, Perth A defeated Inverleith while Fochabers prevailed over Troon. Penicuik won against Perth B in the Plate semi final.
The final resulted in a strong win from Fochabers to take the title against Perth A. The bronze match was won by Inverleith and Glasgow beat Penicuik in a very tight Plate final.
All in all a very successful and enjoyable weekend. We hope more of our clubs will be encouraged to enter teams to next year’s Scottish Cup for Clubs.
Congratulations to Fochabers Petanque Club who will be offered the place in the 2020 EuroCup.
